Set Up Device - Apple® iPhone® 6 / 6 Plus

If you need to transfer contacts and media from one device to another, follow these step-by-step instructions before activating the new device.

Caution To avoid potential issues, review the following:

  • If activation is performed with an incorrect Apple ID or different phone number, erase all content and settings then sign in to iTunes with the correct Apple ID while tethered to the computer.
  • Verify that Find My iPhone is off then power off the old device prior to activating the new device.
  • If using the Wi-Fi method and a firewall is set up on the computer/Wi-Fi network preventing access to port 443, activation fails.
  • Ensure the SIM card is inserted if performing first time (out-of-the-box) setup.
  • Accounts (e.g., Gmail, email, Cloud, etc.) should be set up after activating the device (see Related Topics).

Note Notes:

  • The activation process takes 2-3 minutes.
  • If activating over Wi-Fi, an active Wi-Fi network must be available.
  • If activating OTA, device must be in a Verizon Wireless 3G or LTE area.
  • Verify the device has a charge. If the battery is drained, use the included AC adapter to charge for approximately 15 minutes.
  • If activating on a Prepaid account, you can also activate your device online. For more info on Prepaid plans and service, view our Prepaid FAQs.
