Apple® iPhone® 6s / 6s Plus - iOS Updates

Note Notes:

  • The Apple iPhone requires the latest approved software version. Installing other software versions (e.g. Beta versions, unapproved software versions, etc.) could cause issues with activation, apps, and other device functionality.
  • iOS updates can be either optional or automatic. The on-screen prompts of the iOS download, backup and update may vary.


Caution Caution:

  • Before performing an update, back up your iPhone.
  • If the device fails to reboot after performing the iOS update, restart the device.
  • The iOS update process may take several minutes; don't interrupt while in progress.
  • To avoid potential data costs, it's recommended to connect to a Wi-Fi network.
  • The Cellular Data update method may not be available for all iOS updates.

iOS Update via the Cellular network or Wi-Fi

Note Ensure Wi-Fi is turned on if performing update via Wi-Fi.

  1. Press the Power button if the device does not power on automatically.
  2. If prompted, slide the Unlock switch right, to unlock the device.
  3. From a Home screen, navigate: Settings Settings Icon > General Software Update.
  4. Tap Download and Install.
    Note If prompted, enter your passcode.
  5. Review the Terms and Conditions then tap Agree.
  6. Once the software update is complete, slide the unlock switch to unlock the device. 




iOS Update using your Mac or PC

  1. From the computer, close any open app(s).
  2. Press the Power button to power the iPhone on.
  3. Do one of the following:

    • If using a Mac with macOS Catalina 10.15, open Finder.
    • If using a Mac with macOS Mojave 10.14 or earlier or a PC, open iTunes.
  4. Connect your device to your computer using the USB cable supplied then locate the device.

  5. Click 'General' or 'Settings' then click Check for Update.
  6. Click Download and Update
  7. If prompted, enter your passcode. 




Automatically update iOS

Note Software updates are completed overnight after they have been downloaded while the device is charging and connected to a Wi-Fi connection.

  1. From a Home screen, navigate: Settings Settings Icon > General Software Update.
  2. Tap Automatic Updates.
  3. Tap the Automatic Update switch on to enable on swtich.
