Remove Ransomware From the Device - Android™

Note Need to know info:

  • Ransomware is a type of malware software designed to extort money from someone by locking up their device and personal data files.
  • The device owner is then required to pay a "ransom" to possibly get the device unlocked and restore access to the personal data files.


Choose the appropriate scenario.


Ransomware Detected by Verizon Support & Protection

If prompted, select Delete/Uninstall then tap OK.
Note Selected when a green circle is present.
Threat File Found Threat App Found




Ransomware can't be Removed by Verizon Support & Protection

  1. From the Home screen, navigate: Apps > Settings.
  2. Tap Security / Security & Screen Lock.
  3. Tap Device Administrator.
  4. Tap the App to be removed.
    Note App is active when a check mark is present.
  5. Tap Deactivate.
  6. If prompted, tap OK.
  7. Use device specific instructions to remove the app from the device or from the messaging app.




Device is Locked by Ransomware

  1. Use device specific instructions to place the device in Safe Mode.
  2. From the Home screen, navigate: Apps > Settings.
  3. Tap Apps / App Manager / Manage Apps.
  4. Tap the app to be removed.
  5. Tap Uninstall.
  6. Tap OK.
  7. Press the Power button to restart the device.
