Apple® iPhone® - Activate a New iPhone

  1. From the Activation screen, confirm your phone number then tap Next.
    Note If confirmation fails, see this Apple support info.
  2. Enter the account PIN or the last 4 digits of the account owner's Social Security Number (SSN) then tap Next.
    Note If activating a new phone, ensure the old phone is powered off and allow several minutes for the deactivation of the old phone to complete.
    Note If activation is successful, proceed with step 3; if not, follow the on-screen instructions or contact us.
  3. Tap Set Up Manually.
    Note If you have a previous device on iOS 11 or later, follow the directions to use Quick Start.
  4. Tap the Wi-Fi network, enter the Wi-Fi password then tap Join.
  5. From the Data & Privacy screen, tap Continue.
  6. If prompted to set up Touch ID or Face ID, tap Continue then follow the on-screen prompts to complete the Touch ID or Face ID setup.
  7. Enter a passcode, then re-enter the passcode to confirm.
  8. Tap a setup option:
    Note Restoring your backup can take up to 30 minutes to complete.
  9. Enter your Apple ID and password then tap Next.
    Note If you have an Apple ID already in use on another device, a verification code is sent to that device; you must enter this code to proceed with activation.
    Note If you don't have an Apple ID or have forgotten your sign-in info, refer to one of the following:
  10. To continue, review the Terms and Conditions then tap Agree.
  11. From the Express Settings screen, tap 'Continue' or 'Customize Settings'.
  12. From the Keep Your iPhone Up to Date, tap Continue.
  13. From the iMessage & Facetime screen, tap 'Continue' or 'Not Now'.
  14. From the Siri screen, tap 'Continue' or 'Set up Later in Settings'.
  15. From the Screen Time screen, tap 'Continue' or 'Set Up Later in Settings'.
  16. From the App Analytics screen, tap 'Share with App Developers' or 'Don't Share'.
  17. From the Appearance screen, select Light or Dark then tap Continue.
  18. From the Meet the New Home Button screen, tap 'Get Started' or 'Customize Later in Settings'.
  19. From the Display Zoom screen, select Standard or Zoomed then tap Continue.
  20. Tap Get Started.
  21. Confirm the status bar at the top of the screen changes from 'No Service' to 'Verizon.
    Note This process may take 2-3 minutes. If activation fails, try the iTunes Activation Method.

iTunes Activation Method

Caution During the activation process specific update and restore error messages may be received within iTunes.

  1. From the computer, close any open apps.
  2. Open the iTunes app on the computer.
  3. Connect the iPhone to the computer via USB cable.
    Note Allow time for iTunes to detect and activate your iPhone; successful activation indicated when iTunes shows 'Set up as New' or 'Restore from Backup' screen.
  4. Follow the prompts on the iTunes screen to complete the setup.
    Note This process may take 2-3 minutes. If the activation fails, view this support info.
