Check for Duplicate Contacts Stored in Multiple Accounts - Android™ Smartphone

If you are using multiple backup options on your device and have duplicate contacts, view this info.

Note Notes:

  • Multiple accounts with the same contacts may create duplicates. To minimize, choose the app to use to back up your contacts and turn that setting off for other apps.
  • This info outlines how to manage your contact backup options for some common account types.


  1. From the Home screen, navigate: Apps > Facebook.
  2. Tap the Menu icon Menu icon (upper-right) then tap Settings & Privacy > Settings.
  3. Scroll to 'Media and Contacts' section and tap Media and Contacts.
  4. Tap the Continuous Contacts Upload switch to turn on Switch on icon or off Switch off icon.
    Note If already syncing with Verizon Cloud, turn off to avoid duplicates.


  1. From the Home screen, navigate: Apps > Settings > Accounts.
    Note If unavailable, navigate: Settings > Users & accounts.
  2. Tap your Gmail account then ensure 'Sync Contacts' is unchecked.
    Note If 'Sync Contacts' is unavailable, tap Account sync then ensure the 'Contact' switch is turned off Switch off icon.
