Samsung Galaxy S8 / S8+ - Set Up Face Recognition

Note Notes:

  • Facial recognition is utilized to unlock the device.
  • For optimal performance, ensure you are indoors or away from direct sunlight.
  • If synced to a corporate exchange account, the availability of this option is dependant upon the policies of your IT admin.

  1. From a Home screen, swipe up or down from the center of the display to access the apps screen.
    Note These instructions only apply to Standard mode only.
  2. Navigate: Settings Settings icon > Lock screen and security.
  3. From the Security section, tap Face Recognition.
    Note If presented, enter the current PIN, password, or pattern.
  4. Do one of the following:
  • For first time setup:
    1. Tap CONTINUE.
    2. If presented, select a lock screen option (e.g., Pattern, PIN, Password) then follow the steps to complete the process.
      Note If necessary, refer to Set Up Screen Lock for assistance.
    3. Review the info then tap CONTINUE.
    4. While holding the phone 8-20 inches away, position your face within the circle displayed on-screen.
    5. From the Faster recognition screen, tap the switch (upper-right) to turn on Switch on or off Switch off then tap OK (at the bottom).
      Note When off, greater security is provided making it harder to unlock your phone using an image or video.
    6. If presented, tap the Notifications switch (upper-right) to turn on Switch on or off Switch off then tap DONE.
      Note When on, tap any of the following to turn on or off:
      • Hide content
      • Notification icons only
    7. If presented, tap TURN ON.
  • To remove face data:
    1. From the Manage face data section, tap Remove face data.
    2. To confirm, tap REMOVE.
