Google Pixel 3a - Manage RTT Settings

Note Notes:

  • Real-time text (RTT) is text transmitted instantly as it is typed or created. Recipients can immediately read the message while it is being written, without waiting.
  • When RTT is enabled on both devices, no audio is heard on the call.
  • If you aren't hearing audio on a call, make sure RTT is turned off.
  • No additional device needed.

Enable RTT

  1. From a Home screen, tap Phone Phone app icon (lower-left).
    Note If unavailable, touch and swipe up to display all apps.
  2. Tap the Menu icon Action overflow icon (upper-right) then tap Settings.
  3. Tap Accessibility.
  4. Tap Real Time Text (RTT) Call to turn on Switch on.
    Note If prompted with a 'No Video Calls or Call Merging' message, tap OK to accept then tap the Back arrow icon back arrow (upper-left) several times to return to the calling screen.

Make a Call with RTT

With RTT enabled, from a Home screen, tap Phone Phone icon.
Note If unavailable, swipe up on a Home screen to display all apps, then tap Phone.
Note Once the call connects, RTT shows.

Switch a Call to RTT

If RTT is turned off, while on a call do the following:

  1. Tap the Back arrow iconback arrow (lower-left) several times to return to the calling screen
  2. Tap the Menu icon Action overflow icon (upper-right) then tap Settings.
  3. Tap Accessibility.
  4. Tap Real Time Text (RTT) Call to turn on Switch on.
  5. Tap the Call icon, then tap Back to call.

  6. Tap the RTT icon RTT icon to show the RTT keyboard.

End an RTT Call

While on a call, tap the End icon (at the top) to end the call.
