Improving GPS Performance

  • GPS devices perform best when used outdoors and free from obstruction. Ensure the device is being tested outdoors and has a clear view of the sky for best results.
    • Attempting to use GPS-based applications indoors may result in reduced/loss of GPS connectivity.
    • GPS location information can be delayed while using other network or processor apps e.g., bluetooth, being on a phone call, etc.
  • Enable Wi-Fi on the device to assist with locating the device.
    • The device uses local Wi-Fi signals to help approximate the location.
    • Local Wi-Fi signals add one more data point that the device map apps can utilize to accelerate the acquisition of the device's GPS location.
