Caller Name ID How to Use Guide

Caller Name ID gives you alerts on incoming spam calls and the ability to report and block numbers. Plus, you’ll see a name, picture, city and state when you receive an incoming call, text or voicemail from an unknown number.

Subscribe to Caller Name ID

The Caller Name ID app is pre-loaded on Android® and some BlackBerry® devices. To begin using the service, you can subscribe from the Caller Name ID app or online with My Verizon. Learn how to download the Caller Name ID app.

Caller Name ID app (Android)

  1. Open the Caller Name ID app.
  2. Tap Account Status.
  3. Tap Subscribe.
  4. Accept the Terms & Conditions.

You have successfully subscribed to Caller Name ID through the app.

Caller Name ID app (iPhone®)

  1. Open the Caller Name ID app.
  2. Tap Get Caller Name ID.
  3. Tap Subscribe.

You have successfully subscribed to Caller Name ID from your iPhone.

Online in My Verizon

To subscribe to Caller Name ID online:

  1. Go to the Products & Apps page in My Verizon.
  2. Tap or click Get it Now next to Caller Name ID.
  3. If you have multiple lines on your account, select the ones you want to subscribe to Caller Name ID.
  4. Tap or click Confirm Purchase.

You've successfully added Caller Name ID online.

10-day Free Trial

  • Android and Blackberry: Caller Name ID is pre-loaded on Android devices and some BlackBerry devices with a 10-day free trial. Open the app, select Get Verizon Caller Name ID and accept the terms and conditions to begin your free trial.

  • iPhone: Download the Caller Name ID app in the App StoreSM. Once downloaded, the app will automatically check for trial eligibility when opened for the first time.

Download the Caller Name ID app

Android

The Caller Name ID app is pre-loaded on Android devices.

iPhone

To download Caller Name ID for iPhone:

  1. Go to the App Store.
  2. Search for Verizon Caller Name ID and select the app.
  3. If you see an option to update or install, then you'll need to do so. If you don't see an option to update or install, the app is up to date and ready to open.


You can create a custom name on the Share Name ID page online or with the My Verizon app, or in the Caller Name ID app. Share Name ID is a free service, that lets you customize the name that Caller Name ID subscribers see on certain outbound calls.

The Account Owner or an Account Manager can manage Share Name ID. Learn more about account access roles.

Online in My Verizon

To edit your Share Name ID online:

  1. Go to the Share Name ID page in My Verizon.
  2. Select one of the options listed.

    Note: If you want to create a custom name, select the option with the Enter Name field and enter the name you wish to display on outgoing calls.

  3. Click Submit.
  4. Click OK in the pop-up window.

You've successfully updated Share Name ID in My Verizon.

Caller Name ID app (Android)

  1. Open the Caller Name ID app.
  2. Tap Profile.
  3. Tap Edit Share Name ID. You'll be taken to the My Verizon app to edit your name.
  4. Tap Customize Name.
  5. Enter the name you wish to display on outgoing calls.
  6. Tap Submit.

My Verizon app

To edit your Share Name ID in the My Verizon app:

  1. Go to the Devices tab and select the device you want to manage.
  2. Tap Edit Share Name ID.
  3. Tap Customize Name.
  4. Enter the name you wish to display on outgoing calls.
  5. Tap Submit.

You've updated Share Name ID in the My Verizon app.



With the Caller Name ID app you can upload and change the picture that people see when you call them. You can also block or report any Caller Name ID pictures that may be in appropriate.

Set up your picture that others see

You can upload your Caller Name ID picture with the Caller Name ID app. The maximum file size is 2 MB and the acceptable formats are JPG and PNG.

To upload a picture with the Caller Name ID app:

  1. Open the Caller Name ID app on your Android phone.
  2. Tap Profile.
  3. Tap pencil on image.
  4. Choose the type of picture you want to use:
    • Take a new picture: Your camera app will open so you can take a picture.
    • Choose an existing picture: Select an image that's already on your device.
  5. To crop the picture, you can pinch to zoom in and out or drag the picture to reposition it.
  6. Tap Done.
  7. Tap Use Picture if you're pleased with the image. If you want a different one tap Choose another and repeat steps 4 and 5.
  8. Accept the Terms & Conditions.

The image will display in the Caller Name ID picture section.

Block and report a picture

If a caller's picture is inappropriate you can block or report it with the Caller Name ID app. You can also choose to block all pictures from displaying.

To block or report a caller's picture:

  1. Open the Caller Name ID app.
  2. Tap Manage Caller Pictures.
  3. Tap Block/Report Pictures.
  4. Select the caller picture you want to block or report.

You have successfully blocked a caller's picture.

To block all caller pictures from showing on the incoming call screen:

  1. Open the Caller Name ID app.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap the checkbox next to Show Caller Pictures so it is blank.

You have successfully blocked all caller pictures.



Android

On Android devices you can use the Caller Name ID app to mark numbers as spam. Once marked, that number will be labeled as spam if they call you again.

  1. Open the Caller Name ID app.
  2. Tap Recently Identified.
  3. Under Identified Numbers, tap the phone number you want to mark.
  4. Tap Mark as spam.
  5. Add an optional label to remind you how to respond if the number calls you again and tap OK. You have successfully marked the call as spam.
  6. You'll also have the option to report this number to us. To report the number, select a category that best describes the type of caller. You can also add any additional details.
  7. Tap Report.

You've successfully marked and reported a number.

iPhone

You can manually enter a number that's spam or add one from your call log.

To enter a number manually:

  1. Open Caller Name ID.
  2. Tap the + (plus sign) next to My spam list.
  3. Enter a phone number and select a label that best describes the type of caller.
  4. Tap Add.

You've manually added a spam number.

To add a number from the Call Log:

  1. Go to your iPhone call log and tap the i icon next to the number.
  2. Tap Share Contact.
  3. Tap the lower More button.
  4. Tap the Search Caller Name ID switch so it's green.
  5. Tap Search Caller Name ID to lookup the number in the app. The app will display if the number is identified spam.
  6. Tap Mark as Spam to report it as a spam number.


Android

On Android devices you can use the Caller Name ID app to report a number. Reporting spam numbers helps improve the accuracy of the service.

To report the number as spam:

  1. Open the Caller Name ID app.
  2. Tap Recently Identified.
  3. Tap the phone number you want to report.
  4. Tap Report Number.
  5. Select the category that applies.
  6. Leave an optional comment with any details about the caller that may be helpful to others.

You've successfully reported a number as spam.

iPhone

To report a number as spam:

  1. Mark the number as spam. To learn how, refer to the Mark a number as spam section in this guide.
  2. In the My spam list section, tap the number you want to report.
  3. Tap Report caller.
  4. Select a category that best describes the type of caller and enter any additional comments about the caller.
  5. Tap Report.

You've successfully reported a caller as spam.



You can use the Caller Name ID app to block a number from calling you. You can manually enter a number to block or pick one from your call log. This feature is not yet available on Android smartphones.

To manually enter a number to block:

  1. Open the Caller Name ID app.
  2. Tap Block.
  3. Tap the + (plus sign) next to My block list.
  4. Enter a phone number and select a label that best describes the type of caller.
  5. Tap Block.

You've successfully entered a number to block.

To block a number from your call log:

  1. Go to your iPhone call log and tap the i icon next to the number.
  2. Tap Share Contact.
  3. Tap the lower More button.
  4. Enable Search Caller Name ID.
  5. Tap Search Caller Name ID to lookup the number with the Caller Name ID app.
  6. Tap Block Caller.

You've successfully blocked a number from your call log.



With Caller Name ID on iPhone you can enter a number or pick one from your call log to see if it has been identified as spam. This feature is not yet available on Android.

To search for a number from the Caller Name ID app:

  1. Open Caller Name ID.
  2. Tap the search (magnifying glass) icon in the top right.
  3. Enter a phone number.
  4. If the phone number has been previously identified as spam, it will display.

To search for a number from the call log:

  1. Go to your iPhone call log and tap the i icon next to the number.
  2. Tap Share Contact.
  3. Tap the lower More button.
  4. Enable Search Caller Name ID.
  5. Tap Search Caller Name ID to lookup the number with the Caller Name ID app.

You've successfully performed a reverse number search.



You can set up an alert so you're notified when an unknown caller or texter is identified.

To set up alerts:

  1. Open the Caller Name ID app.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Identified Number Alert to turn alerts on and off. Alerts are on when the checkbox is red.


To remove the Caller Name ID service from a line on your account:

  1. Go to the Products & Apps page in My Verizon.
  2. Click the Manage Your Products tab at the top of the page.
  3. If you have multiple lines on your account, select the line you want to remove Caller Name ID from.
  4. Scroll to Verizon Caller Name ID and click Remove from Account.
  5. Review the changes and bill impacts on the confirmation pop-up, and then click Remove Product to confirm the transaction.

Note: You can only remove a product from one line at a time. To remove the same product from another line, select that line and repeat steps d and e.

You've successfully unsubscribed from Caller Name ID through My Verizon.

If you have an eligible Android or BlackBerry device, you can also unsubscribe from the Caller Name ID app on your device:

  1. Go to the Caller Name ID app on your device.
  2. Tap Account Status.
  3. Tap Unsubscribe.
  4. Tap Continue to confirm your selection.

You've successfully unsubscribed from Caller Name ID through the app.
