Transfer Contacts & Other Content Between Phones

We've made moving your prized pictures, videos, contacts and more to a new device easier than ever with the Verizon Content Transfer app.

1 Download the Verizon Content Transfer app to your old phone from the Google Play™ Store or Apple® App StoreSM. Shop online for your new Verizon device.

2 After you activate your new or certified pre-owned device, download the Content Transfer app to your new phone.

3 Open the Verizon Content Transfer app on both phones, place your old and new phones side-by-side and follow the prompts to transfer your content to your new device. They don't need to be physically connected.

Need more help? We have detailed instructions below.

Please note: When using the Content Transfer app to move messages to an Android phone, a pop-up screen asks if you want to change your default text messaging app. You must tap Yes to avoid losing your text messages. You'll be able to change your default message app after the content transfer is completed.

Remember, when you're up and running with your new phone, keep your content secure with Verizon Cloud.

  3. Using the Content Transfer app between iPhone and Android smartphones

After downloading the Content Transfer app, you'll need to pair your devices before you start transferring content between an Android and iPhone.

    Phone requirements:

    • Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) or newer*
    • iPhone 5 or newer
    • iOS 8 or newer

    * Motorola and HTC Android phones require Android 5.0 (Lollipop) or newer

The Android phone will automatically create a direct, secure Wi-Fi connection.

To start the content transfer process on your iPhone:

    1. Tap Settings.
    2. Tap Wi-Fi.
    3. Select the Wi-Fi network shown on the Android phone, enter password if necessary.
    4. Tap Back to content transfer (in upper left of the screen)

Then continue through the steps to transfer your content.

    Transferring content to an iPhone.

Transferring content to an Android phone.

If you're using an older Android phone (Honeycomb or older) or iPhone (iPhone 5 and/or iOS 7 or older):

    1. Manually connect your old and new phones to the same Wi-Fi network. Once connected, your new phone will generate a Wi-Fi network PIN.
    2. Enter the PIN shown on the new phone into your old phone, then continue through the steps to transfer your content.

Now that you've transferred your content, keep it safe and secure with Verizon Cloud.

  4. Using Verizon Cloud to secure your content

You can use Verizon Cloud to secure your content. It's just 3 simple steps:

    1. Connect your phone to Wi-Fi (to avoid data charges) and download the latest version of the Verizon Cloud app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
    2. Open the Verizon Cloud app and follow the onscreen instructions. Your first backup can take a while, but you'll be notified when your backup is complete.
    3. Activate your device after you receive the notification. Open the Verizon Cloud app to access your content, which is now securely backed up.

  5. Support links for additional ways to backup and transfer content

If you already use a different cloud service and need support, visit:

Our online Content Transfer tool shows you the steps to transfer content between your current and new devices. Just select your current device and then your new one and we'll tell you how to do it.

  6. Have a basic phone? Learn how to backup and restore your content.

If you have basic phones, you can use the Verizon Wireless Backup Assistant and Backup Assistant Plus to transfer, backup and restore content between basic phones.
